Backup / Restore base register
ometimes we come from in our hapless hack the registry to “optimize” our system. Although these changes are not recommended, you can modify a frenzy deleted key or 2 or 3 values here and there …
But as a good “hacker” before editing the registry database, we made a backup! yes? So here’s how to recover our former registry.
Save the registry
Under 2000 and XP:
Click on Start then select Run and type regedit
Right click on My Computer at the top of the left column
On the Registry menu select Export …
Give the file a name. Reg file and save it to disk.
Restore the registry
Restart in MS-DOS, and then, once the prompt, type the command:
scanreg / restore
A blue screen appears and asks us to select the backup, restore previously performed. Normally we should have 5 backups listed in chronological order. It selects the most recent.
Info for a small list of options of the command ScanReg:
- / Backup: save the message without user
- / Restore: displays the list of backups available
- Fix: the repairs
- Autoscan: scans the base but not every time I start the backup only once a day (used as a command in autoexec.bat).
- / Scanonly: scans the registry and return any errors but does not backup.
- / Opt: defragmenting the registry and optimize it.
